THE WANDERERS is the television series that followed and expanded on EL HAZARD. Though the TV series tells essentially the same story as the OAV, it rearranges its predecessor's continuity and offers a new and different take on the world of EL HAZARD. The series begins as Jinnai, who can't stand Makoto, the official Big Man on Campus at his school, hatches a plan to sabotage Makoto's science fair entry. However, the minute changes Jinnai makes have an unexpected result: they open a gateway to another dimension through which Jinnai, his sister Nanami, Makoto, and their teacher are sucked through and deposited into El Hazard, a land of wonder and fantasy. Oji, in his youth, was a guitarist with some serious chops and a member of Black Heaven, a metal band that almost made it big. These days, Oji is pushing pencils in a corporate job that makes him long for those halcyon days when he was a poor musician. Just as despair almost completely overcomes him, Oji is visited by a beautiful woman who tells him that his guitar playing is the key to saving the universe from marauding aliens. Oji, having gotten the band back together, is now struggling with his out of practice cohorts and his frustrated wife.
