Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Vol. 4 (DVD)

Buy Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Vol. 4 (DVD)

The original GHOST IN THE SHELL was hailed by critics and audiences alike as one of the finest Anime films ever produced, and influenced Hollywood films from THE MATRIX to A.I.
GHOST IN THE SHELL: STAND ALONE COMPLEX features the same cyberpunk atmosphere, characters, and settings as the original film, but takes place in an alternate timeline where Major Motoko Kusanagi and Togusa are still members of Section 9--a police agency that hunts down cyber-criminals and terrorists. Based on the manga by Masumune Shirow and directed by Kenji Kamiyama (who directed and assisted with the animation on BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE and JIN-ROH: THE WOLF BRIGADE), STAND ALONE COMPLEX focuses on creating complex mysteries, a dark futuristic setting, and kinetic action sequences. Volume 4 contains four episodes of the acclaimed action series, and continues the story of Motoko and her quest to bring down criminals both real and virtual.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Special PackagingAnamorphic Widescreen - 1.85Disc One:Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - Japanese Dolby Digital 5.1 - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Trailers InterviewsDVD-ROM Features: WeblinksDisc Two:Audio: DTS 5.1 - Japanese DTS 5.1 - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Trailers InterviewsDVD-ROM Features: WeblinksAdditional Products: Collectors ID Card

Airing in Japan between 1972-1974, the popular and highly influential anime series GATCHAMAN is credited for spearheading worldwide interest in the Japanese style of animation. In America, GATCHAMAN inspired two animated television series (the 1970s-era BATTLE OF THE PLANETS and the late-'80s G-FORCE) as a well an updated 1990s spinoff OVA, but the series itself was never aired in its original
Japanese format. This reissue finally presents the original GATCHAMAN in all its pristine glory: uncut, unedited, newly dubbed, and with 20 episodes never even seen in the U.S. Relive the adventures of Professor Kozaburou Nambu; his Science Ninja Team of Ken, Jo, Jun, Jinpei, and Ryu; and their superweapon aircraft Phoenix as they battle to save the Earth from the world-domination plans of the evil Galactor organization. This volume introduces the series with the first five complete episodes.

Lady Death (DVD) Lady Death (DVD) » Lady Death (DVD)

Brian Pulido's cadaverous comic book heroine springs to animated life in the full-length, made-for-video Anime film LADY DEATH. In 15th-century Sweden, an innocent young maiden named Hope discovers that her beloved father is, in fact, the Devil in disguise. Condemned to be burned at the stake by the local townsfolk, Hope strikes a deal with Lucifer to spend eternity in Hell in exchange for escape from her igneous death. But once in the fiery depths, Hope breaks the pact and transforms herself into the voluptuous, white-haired warrior Lady Death, battling to wrest control of Hell away from her demonic father in a last-ditch effort at salvation. Director Andrew Orjuela, screenwriter Carl Macek (ROBOTECH: THE MOVIE), and composer Bill Brown (ANY GIVEN SUNDAY) imbue Pulido's epic tale with a Neil Gaiman-meets-Bruegel style of animation perfectly suited to its gothic subject matter.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseAnamorphic WidescreenAudio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - English Subtiles - English - Closed CaptionsAdditional Release Material: Featurette - 1. Or (My Treasure) (DVD) » Or (My Treasure) (DVD)

Keren Yedaya`s directorial debut, OR (MY TREASURE), tells of a complex mother-daughter relationship in modern-day Tel-Aviv, Israel. Or (Dana Ivgy) is a 16-year-old girl who does all she can to support her mother, Ruthie (Ronit Elkabetz), a sick and aging prostitute. The film takes great care in showing the taxing daily routines of Or`s life: recycling loose cans, washing dishes in a local restaurant, and going to school when she can. Her ultimate goal is to earn enough money so that her mother never has to walk the streets again. Or even finds a housekeeping job for her mother in hopes that she`ll stop turning tricks. It soon becomes clear that Or must assume all of the strains and responsibility of the household to help her poor mother, and thus the traditional roles of parent and child are reversed. Other films might make a character like Ruthie contemptible, but Yedaya does not. Indeed, there are some loving scenes between this mother and daughter who truly need each other. In OR (MY TREASURE), Yedaya achieves a unique look, including a minimal amount of shots per scene, and a gritty, no-frills aesthetic. The result is an unflinching and compelling film that won the Golden Camera for Best First Film at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.
