Based on Rumiko Takahashi's (RANMA 1/2) popular weekly comic strip, URUSEI YATSURA was one of Japan's most popular television shows during its run from 1981-1986 which produced 195 episodes of the show. It follows the adventures of Ataru, a young man who is charged with saving the Earth by competing with a beautiful alien named Lum in a game of tag. In episodes 25-28, Ataru has a run-in with some kappa vampires who take him to the bottom of a lake, causing Lum to think that he has drowned. Later, Ataru must endure another out of body experience when a pair of body-switching earmuffs catch he and Ten with their guard down. Set in Japan, circa 1969, GATEKEEPERS finds unconventional guerilla tactics being used by an unknown group of soldiers, known only as the Invaders, who are apparently trying to slow Japan's recovery from WWII. Unfortunately, these guerillas seem to be impervious to traditional means of fighting, panicking many army and government officials. However, soon a new type of hero is discovered among the teenage population of Japan who call themselves the Gate Keepers. Endowed with the ability to open gates to other dimensions, these teenage heroes are Japan's only hope for defeating the guerilla menace. In these episodes, the Gate Keepers begin to realize the extent of the Invaders' powers when they find one disguised as an airplane. The provocative anime series YUGO THE NEGOTIATOR breaks new ground in the genre with a topical realism ripped straight from the headlines. In a world racked by terrorism and politically-based kidnappings, an unusual operative named Yugo Beppu is hired by various foreign governments to utilize his quick logic, foreign language skills, and psychological manipulation techniques when all other forms of hostage negotiation have failed. Based upon a manga and rendered in a starkly realist style of animation, the first half of the anime series finds Yugo helping a young woman whose father is being held by a Pakistani rebel group bent on overthrowing the government (the second half launches an entirely new Russian storyline). This volume continues the first half with three more episodes.
