Airing in Japan between 1972-1974, the popular and highly influential anime series GATCHAMAN is credited for spearheading worldwide interest in the Japanese style of animation. In America, GATCHAMAN inspired two animated television series (the 1970s-era BATTLE OF THE PLANETS and the late-'80s G-FORCE) as a well an updated 1990s spinoff OVA, but the series itself was never aired in its original
Japanese format. This reissue finally presents the original GATCHAMAN in all its pristine glory: uncut, unedited, newly dubbed, and with 20 episodes never even seen in the U.S. Relive the adventures of Professor Kozaburou Nambu; his Science Ninja Team of Ken, Jo, Jun, Jinpei, and Ryu; and their superweapon aircraft Phoenix as they battle to save the Earth from the world-domination plans of the evil Galactor organization. One of the first entirely CGI-animated films, this is a film of historical importance for animation fans, as well as an adventure story with a strong environmental message that the whole family should enjoy. Amamiku is the daughter of two scientists who travel back in time to an Earth that has been destroyed by nuclear war. There, they leave behind seeds containing the genetic code for the planet's rebirth, and their daughter, suspended in stasis, is charged with orchestrating the planet's revival. 80 years later, Amamiku lives in an underwater realm, which protects her from the radioactive atmosphere. However, she faces another threat, the evil Glyptofane, to whom the presence of humanity on Earth is a curse and whose robotic army will stop at nothing to wipe them out. As she joins forces with the scattered remains of humanity, and knowledge of her presence spreads, a conflict breaks out between the two sides. Meanwhile, Amamiku waits impatiently for the Earth to heal enough for the seeds to germinate. The genre-bending anime series Burst Angel blends sci-fi, action, comedy, and even a touch of spaghetti Western into a thrilling girls-with-guns confection.
