Abeno Masahiro is the grandson of the great sorcerer Abeno Seimei. Unfortunately for him, his grandfather did such a great job in the past, he really hasn’t had a need to perform any magical duties and as a result, Masahiro lost his sixth sense and the ability to see spirits. One day, a demon drops from the sky and proclaims that Masahiro must continue his grandfather’s work and learn to be an Onmyouji regardless of the dangers that await him!

One night, an unexpected guest, Princess Keiko, suddenly appears in Akiko's courtyard. She tries to lure Akiko out of the house; however, her body is surrounded by a demonic aura. Later, it is discovered that Keiko has been ill and confined to bed. Is this the work of demons? To uncover the truth, Masahiro and Akiko visit Keiko's mansion together -- just then, Akiko is kidnapped by the demons!

In order to learn the truth behind the Door of Hades' opening, Masahiro visits Kifune in spite of his injury and has a difficult choice forced upon him. As the first holy seal holding back the Land of Hades crumbles, Masahiro, Kouchin and Seiryu rush to the scene to try and stop the miasma from escaping into the world as Seimei faces Chishiki No Guuji alone!

Amidst the apparitions and spirits of dead people running rampant in the middle of the city, Masahiro finds the ghost of a border guard wandering about. When he tries to put him to rest, Masahiro ends up getting possessed instead. Meanwhile, Mokkun has been acting strange and the timing couldn't be worse since the demon Mokkun had failed to capture kidnaps Masahiro's niece!

Masahiro is slowly getting used to his new role but he quickly learns that trouble comes from unexpected places when Princess Akiko's relative, Princess Keiko, falls victim to a vengeful spirit. During Masahiro's investigation, Akiko is kidnapped and Keiko, who is overcome by an ever-increasing hatred, interferes with his mission. In the end Masahiro battles the evil spirits but suffers a near fatal wound when he is betrayed by Akiko!
